September 11th

September 11th, 2006 I, Laura Bartholomay Childs came dangerously close to wetting the bed. It was my first night/day at Ft Knox without Geoff and just as I was beginning to think I could handle it like a big girl I hear the one thing that sends you back to a 5 year old's fear...GUN SHOTS, from our living room. Thoughts of Geoff saying "I feel much safer leaving you on base for 6 weeks than in an apartment off post" kept replaying in my mind and before I knew it the shots were actually soothing. They kept going on and on as I drifted through the haze of confusion and before long I realized that September 11th on an army base was a pretty awesome and awe-inspiring thing. Whole companies were called to attention outside our door while the most honoring tribute of a 21 gun salute was given at the time when the first plane hit the Trade Center. YAY for life on base!
