Sometimes I forget

It was 11pm last night, I was in bed reading trying to get my tired to turn into sleepy and Geoff was dozing off when I heard the distinct sound of bugles. The base has a speaker system that plays every morning at 6am and every evening at 5 when the flag is flown and taken down respectively. It happens so often then you can sometimes tune it out, much like the train that passes behind our neighborhood but last night was different.
I just had to know what was going on and shook Geoff. "Why are they playing Taps at 11pm?" Geoff answered through the 'why did you just wake me up haze' "They brought a body back from 1st Cavalry's unit today, so they are probably moving him".
Its sometimes easy to forget that the uniforms you see swarming on base actually mean something. Its easy to focus on the joy of Geoff not being deployed for a while instead of the families who are here without their loved ones who jump everytime the phone rings. Please keep Staff Sgt. Christopher Kiernan, his family and all of the deployed soldiers in your prayers!
