Day 2: Around Naples pt.2

After a stop by Geoff's work and a bite of lunch we headed out to spend the afternoon at Herculaneum- sister site to the more famous Pompeii. Pompeii was a bigger city that gotcovered by 10-12feet of ash, but Herculaneum is closer to Vesuvius and was hit by a flood of boiling mud which actually preserved the town better than Pompeii.

I love how in the first picture you can see that the modern city is built right on top of what hasn't been excavated. Imagine how many other towns lay under the current Naples metropolis!

Friday night was a treat! A major that Geoff works with, who is actually stationed there, invited us to have dinner with him and his wife. We met at their apartment (which happens to be an amazing Penthouse Apartment complete with access to the entire roof) enjoyed wonderful conversation and appetizers on the roof while watching the sunset, then walked to a beautiful resturant where I got to experience true Neopolitan Pizza! Eat Pray Love style. It was incredible.
