Day 4: Amalfi

a.k.a the day the heavens parted and the angels sang to me

Welcome to the Amalfi coast, the Mediterranean coast where towns are stacked upon the rocky coastlines and spill into the sea. The part that I was most looking forward to before heading over to Italy. The receptionist at the hotel must have sensed my excitement as we asked the best way to get there when he told us to skip the exit suggested in the guide book and get off on the exit he wrote down. so we hoped in the car and set out on our adventure
(Cue the angels singing)
I looked down at the paper and it said "Vietri del Mar"
now, having grown up in the south and the land of SouthernSeason I have always known and loved Vietri pottery.
I just assumed that Vietri was a family name or something.
I have never been more excited to be wrong.
Vietri = my personal heaven
a small town on the Amalfi coast known for its hand painted ceramics and the thousand year old way in which they make and paint them! aaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh (thats the angels)
here are also some fun shots from the little town of Amalfi itself. The Duomo there is so impressive architecturally and holds relics of Saint Andrew (as in disciple, brother to Simon Peter, make you fishers of men Andrew). I loved the door to the church where 8 panels are bronze patina but there is on face of Andrew that everyone rubs so its still shiny.

I love Vietri too! My wedding "china" is Cucina Fresca. Would you believe I've never even been to the outlet in Hillsborough?
