Our first house guest

Last week we were blessed to have our first house guest in the form of Margurette (direct from the Netherlands/Australia) visit us in Texas. We had a blast, tons of laughs, lots of catch up time and quite a few belly rubs. Geoff grilled for us, we explored Salado, we shopped and discovered gold... over all, we had a blast! Although she used all of her wishing and hoping to get Squiget to come before she headed back over the pond we had no such luck... Heres a favorite picture from Salado (please ignore the massive amounts of chins)

Dear Squig, Love Roars

...quite possibly the funniest e-mail I've ever received...

Dear Squidget,
Recent reports are telling me that Mommy wants you to vacate the premises. (I think you missed a month of rent or something!) I hope you don't take this the wrong way... she's enjoyed being the vessel that carried you from embryo to fully developed human, but that part of the journey has to come to an end sometime soon!

Personally, I want you to get out of there b/c I'm lonely here in DC... and you're my best hope of getting a new friend to play with! So, please, wriggle on outta there... show your beautiful face (and gender... and name!)... and atleast get a few photos online so we can see you!!

Love, Aunt Rory
P.S. When you're coming out, please just wiggle and slide out... no kicking, no resisting... just go with it (believe me, it's worth it)... Mommy's body is a temple and you've been living in it for a few months now... so let's try to leave it in as good condition as it was when you got there! :)

Sometimes I forget

It was 11pm last night, I was in bed reading trying to get my tired to turn into sleepy and Geoff was dozing off when I heard the distinct sound of bugles. The base has a speaker system that plays every morning at 6am and every evening at 5 when the flag is flown and taken down respectively. It happens so often then you can sometimes tune it out, much like the train that passes behind our neighborhood but last night was different.
I just had to know what was going on and shook Geoff. "Why are they playing Taps at 11pm?" Geoff answered through the 'why did you just wake me up haze' "They brought a body back from 1st Cavalry's unit today, so they are probably moving him".
Its sometimes easy to forget that the uniforms you see swarming on base actually mean something. Its easy to focus on the joy of Geoff not being deployed for a while instead of the families who are here without their loved ones who jump everytime the phone rings. Please keep Staff Sgt. Christopher Kiernan, his family and all of the deployed soldiers in your prayers!

Meet Squiget

Geoff and I had a wonderful experience today! We got to SEE our baby and it was truely AMAZING! We had a 3D session this morning and got to see Squiget's face and cute ears and all finger and toes (and no we did not find out the sex~) The baby was pretty tired through out the session but we got a wave or two with the hand that is by his/her face and some yawns so here is a link to a short slide show of the session: http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8BZMmzJw5aNLS&notag=1

Its not all Squiget

Geoffs doing well, he is on his 3rd day of 24 hour duty so I know hes ready to come home and crash! He started BradleyNet which is a big training course designed for scout units that use Bradleys in Iraq. I got a lot of emails today asking if he was affected my the Pentagon's announcement to send more troops this December but as of right now hes being told April '08. Here is Geoff and our friend Dave settling in for the night without the comforts of home...

When Big becomes Huge

I admit it, I've not been doing the weekly belly pic shot because lets be honest, a) its hard to physically do and b) you've seen one big blob you've seen them all. After so many people saw the Easter pics and freaked out I guess its time to bare the belly and show you how huge Squiget has gotten. Now you can see why back aches and lack of sleep have me so gosh darn cheery!

Progress...

One wall down, two to go! Saving the biggest/hardest one for last might not have been the best plan but atleast I can get a sense of accomplishment when I see that one wall is done. Now on to the map of Never-never-land!

Its Nursery Time!

Exciting times on 24th street... last night I started painting the nursery! I said I was going to get the rest of the house put together before I started but I just couldn't help myself. For those who didn't know, we chose a Peter Pan theme for the nursery because its gender neutral and one of Geoff's favorite Disney movies. I will certainly post pictures of the final product but I just had to share... YAY for a whole room of craftiness!

(PS you can't see it yet, but Peter Pan is shaking Tinkerbell so the kids will be sprinkled with Pixie dust and be able to fly... other walls will have them flying over London and a map of never never land)

The White Stuff

Its snowing... in April... in central Texas! If that isn't blog worthy I don't know what is. Geoff and I woke up to a mad panic to try and figure out our central air/heat system and I am all cozy in every blanket that we've unpacked. This sure does ruin my only pregnant fitting easter outfit for tomorrow but I guess I'll just worry about that later. Hope you all are keeping warm~
