Weekend Recap: 9/11

Grants favorite kitchen activity recently has been making chocolate chip cookies. Well, I should say, he liked watching me make them and he liked eating the final product even more. It dawned on me a couple of weeks ago that if I bought the big tub of pre-made cookie dough he could spoon them out onto the pan and actually "make cookies" himself, then the hard part is on me (not to bake, and then eat them, EVERY afternoon)
So Saturday I was trying to think of something for Grant to do honoring 9/11 but knowing his little 4 year old brain didn't need to know things like terror or people dying, so I settled on firemen. Grant loves anything related to firemen. So I printed off some coloring pages, Grant went to town coloring them in, he made a batch of chocolate cookies and we headed over to the Hope Mills fire station.
Here's where it gets good. He hands over the pictures (very excited that he had done 3 because apparently they have 3 fridges to display them on), made his Momma proud by saying "thank you for ta-tecting us" and after he gave them the tub of cookies proclaimed...
"these are for you, but Santa is really special because he gets cookies AND milk" cue a the couple of firemen who heard it laughing and proceed to turn and share the sentiment with the entire firehouse!
We laid low Sunday until the evening when Grant stood 18 inches form the TV screen and played his favorite football game "I spy 36" (which gets him very frustrated when Jim is out of the shot at the snap) Our thoughts were with New York, as well as DC and Pennsylvania this weekend. and of course, Our hearts are with Geoff, tucked into the pocket of his ACUs!
